Recently a Maltese court found diver Arthur Castillo guilty of the involuntary homicide of his dive buddy, Christine Gauci, in spite of his best efforts to save her. She was a 35-year-old soldier and diving instructor, and they were on a private dive. Amidst outrage at the verdict from the diving community, it seems to have increased the liability risk for buddy divers.
BSAC divers automatically have liability insurance as part of the their membership. But for others, it is relatively cheap to buy specialist liability insurance for divers.
Divemaster Insurance, for example, will cover criminal and civil defence costs (apart from in the USA and Canada).
Something to think about as well as your travel and equipment insurance.
