Jill Heinerth is a hard-core tech diver who can break down and repair a rebreather to the component level, a speaker on environmental issues and an accomplished artist. Jill was a founding entrant of the Women Divers’ Hall of Fame, has dived deeper into the planet than any woman in history and been to some extraordinary places. She has dived caves underneath the remote Ural mountains of Siberia and explored sacred desert springs in Africa. In 2000 she was involved in one of her most ambitious projects to date — to dive inside a giant iceberg. Heinerth was awarded the inaugural Sir Christopher Ondaatje Medal for Exploration by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society in 2013 in recognition of her contributions to our understanding of Earth’s underwater cave systems and its hidden freshwater.
